BEIJING: China can take measures to safeguard its interests if U.S. trade measures hurt Chinese interests, the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) aforesaid in a very statement on Fri.

U.S. President Donald Trump proclaimed on Thursday that he would impose a twenty five p.c tariff on foreign steel and a ten p.c tariff on metal to shield U.S.-based producers.

“China hopes the U.S. respects the three-way trade system and maintains a traditional commercialism order with the remainder of the globe,” Wang Hejun, head of MOFCOM’s Trade Remedy and Investigation Bureau, aforesaid within the statement.

“Most of the steel and metal product that the U.S. imports square measure middle- or low-end product which has not broken the national security of the country,” Wang aforesaid.
